Finally a nice big adult. They are extraordinarily beautiful.
This one was sitting on a small bush of Catenicellid bryozoans, but surrounded by quite a few other bushes.
I also saw a smaller red one in a separate bryozoan (Last image).
~3.5cm long
~3m subtidal
A few small ones were recently washed ashore. Maybe one every 10 metres. Sail direction is right.
Imaged in my aquarium. The hydroid structures are so amazing. The hydroids were covered in brown particles, I think these are the juvenile medusa waiting to bud.
~1-2cm across
A tiny guy eating some Beania magellanica bryozoans. These bryozoans are really abundant here. On a small reef wall under a small overhang.
~0.6cm long
~2m subtidal
Really nice to find some healthy specimens. There were three tucked into a deep reef. Two were mating.
One was tucking into a Catenicellidae bryozoan. There were small bushes of these bryozoans all along the wall, along with Ecklonia as the main algae.
~0.8cm long
~4m subtidal
A green chiton attached to a half crab. We observed this alien looking commensal beast while undertaking an intertidal survey on the reefs off Hawera. It made us jump when we first turned over the rock.
