Presidio Co., Texas

The Lilian's race of Eastern Meadowlark is in much of southwest Texas and into Arizona and Mexico. It is clearly an Eastern Meadowlark, but has a song different from "normal" Eastern Meadowlarks and different from Western Meadowlarks as well. There was once talk of making it a separate species, "Lilian's Meadowlark" but that never happened. Some authors have assigned it species status as Sturnella lilianae, but so far the AOU has kept it with Eastern Meadowlark.

This flower was about 10-12mm, as shown from how tiny the blue-scarlet flower is between my fingers. The flower was found near an open area of land that had a vegetation of field bindweeds, Texas thistle, and pink ladies. It was cloudy with an average temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
