The Cottontail has long upright ears, these ears are pale, open and enclosed at the bottom. This rabbit also has round big eyes, a tan, grey fur coat and a white coat on its underbelly. The hind legs of this species are longer horizontally, than the two front legs to help this animal run at intense speeds.
This small rabbit was observed in the natural area found inside a neighborhood, and appeared to live under some desert plants. Although I could not get close enough to get a clear picture the rabbit seemed to be young and therefore small in size. It’s ears were long, and it possessed a tail that looked like cotton. It was gray in color all throughout.
From the family “Papilionidae” this Two-tailed Swallowtail butterfly was feeding on some of the flower nectar from one of the bushes in front of the UTEP library. It is characterized by its brightly colored yellow wings with a black outline.
