This observation is part of a long-term project examining plankton biodiversity in the nearshore waters around the Hakai Institute's Quadra Island ecological observatory. A COI DNA sequence from the organism has been deposited in the Barcode of Life Data System (BOLD). Photo license and credit belong to the Hakai Institute.

The COI DNA sequence for this organism does not match any previously published sequences.

The Tanaidae (Crustacea; Tanaidacea) Of California, With A Key To The World Genera, Volume 94 (1981)

According to this text:
"There are currently 6 known species of Tanaidae from California: Anatanais
pseudonormani n. sp.; Pancolus californiensis Richardson, Sinelobus
stanfordi (Richardson), Synaptotanais notabilis n. sp., Zeuxo normani
(Richardson), and Zeuxo paranormani Sieg (for futher details see Sieg,
1980)."
