American Isopod and Myriapod Group website

Visual Guide to the Porcellio and Similar Species of North and Central America
Armadillidium vulgare Versus Armadillidium nasatum

Hello, welcome to my profile! I am a high school student who is passionate about science, particularly genetics, ecology, and taxonomy. I am fascinated by understudied topics such as ocelli morphology and function, and I believe they have the potential to make a significant impact on our understanding of the world.

My journey as a student has been filled with hands-on research experiences in the field and in the laboratory, which has allowed me to develop my skills in techniques like taxonomic photography, data collection, animal husbandry, species identification, and microscopy. I have also been a part of several projects, including the identification of insect and mite damage and biological control.

I am proud to be one of the seven co-founders of the American Isopod and Myriapod Group (AIMG), where I manage and maintain all the organization's social media accounts and serve as the lead editor for its publications. I take pride in being a part of this group and am dedicated to making it better.

In my free time, I am an active iNaturalist user with over 61,000 identifications, focusing mainly on Isopoda. I take great pleasure in being one of the few active Isopoda curators, helping to keep iNaturalist's taxonomic data up to date. I also work with Dr. Carlos and the APHIS team, assisting with various aspects of the isopod trade, including revising the distribution of terrestrial Isopoda in the contiguous United States.

I am driven by my love for science and a desire to make a positive impact in the world. I believe that my academic pursuits and my contributions to AIMG and iNaturalist can help advance our understanding of the natural world. All of my photos posted on Inaturalist are taken and edited by me unless otherwise stated, and I allow anyone to use my CC-BY photographs as long as they provide proper credit (Nathan Jones, not Blastcat please).
