Berry Springs Preserve Herps of Texas report, 16Mar2022

In spite of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there was a small group outing to Berry Springs Park and Preserve this month for the first time in two years. However, everyone wore masks and mostly social distanced while checking on the amphibians.
Three amphibian species were observed in the main ponds: Rio Grande Leopard Frog (CI = 2), Blanchard's Cricket Frog (CI = 2), and American Bullfrog (CI = 1). Photos were obtained for only Rio Grande Leopard Frog. Audio recordings were obtained for Rio Grande Leopard Frog and Blanchard's Cricket Frog, but not for American Bullfrog.
According to the USGS gauge station at Berry Creek at Airport Rd near Georgetown, TX (https://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/uv/?site_no=08105095&PARAmeter_cd=00045), there had been no rain since last month's monitoring session (i.e., seven weeks with no rain). Temperatures were in the mid-80s the day of monitoring.
The monitoring period was 19:40 - 20:40.
Participants were Kathy, Amy, Christie, and Carolyn.
Environmental conditions at the main ponds at sunset:
Air temperature = 68.9 deg F
Water temperature = 69.9 deg F
Sky = no/few clouds
Water level = below average
Relative humidity = 27 %
