Early Spring in the Neon Alaska office

Spring is here! As of May 15th, buds are breaking on the Populus tremuloides trees at our Bonanza Creek site and Betula nana/glandulosa at our Delta Junction site. Our phenology species in Healy have not started their spring phenophases yet. However, the Eriophorum vaginatum in Healy is in flower! We have also collected our first round of litter at Healy and Delta Junction, which will be used to help determine productivity at those sites. Migratory birds have started to arrive in Fairbanks - there are sand hill cranes, Canada geese, pintails, American wigeons, and more at Creamers Field.
