Back when I was more active in botanical research, I worked on the taxonomy of Marattiaceae, the flora of French Polynesia, wrote treatments for various California plant families for the Jepson Manual (some ferns, Nyctaginaceae), and published a flora of the Carquinez Strait region in Northern California.

These days, you'll still find me squinting at ferns through a loupe, but instead of journals, my writing ends up in places like the San Francisco Chronicle, BBC Travel, Lonely Planet and more.
