-Retired- FA 15 UOG CRB Damage Survey

This project is to assess damage to coconut trees (Cocos nucifera) by Rhino Beetles (CRB) on Guam, for the University of Guam's Environmental Biology Class (Bi 100L). This is the second iteration of this project.

We hope these data will be useful for UOG's Cooperative Extension Service, USDA, & GovGuam Agencies for tracking damage to coconut tree resources.

Typically, we see two types of damage to Coconut Palms by CRBs: trimmed leaves and bore holes.

1) Trimmed leaves on fronds give a triangular or diamond shape. They are made when CRBs bore down into palm crowns and damage fronds yet to emerge.

2) Bore holes through the base or stem of palm fronds. These are made when CRBs bore through stems to get to the crowns.

We will record these types of damage, and other plant information, such as tree height, presence of fruits and color of fruits (if present).

Data will be used by UOG Environmental Biology Lab (Bi 100L) students for their class project scientific reports. We will also provide data to relevant agencies for their use. 較少 ↑
