"Come on....Kiss me...I dare you!!!!
Continuing-already counted-resubmitting for the goofy wildlife project.
Well that's one way to get to the last of the peanuts in the ring I haven't seen them try before.
Happy 8 week anniversary to Marie Mallard and her 5 (surviving) ducklings! Photos #’s 15-16 hatching day, 8 ducklings :))
I’m wondering if they will continue to come to this area individually once independent from their mother hen?! 🤞🤞🫶
A treacherous walk to their first swim :0
Hen with 8 newly hatched ducklings. 2 individual drakes (#’s 2,3,5). 1 Canada goose present photo #1
Marie with her 8 newborn ducklings on their first venture to the feeders followed by their first swim. She hid her nest so well!! I’m happy beyond words :))
Continuing-submitting for "Goofy Project" (And I totally love this one!!)
Taken from approx 100ft away...Note the Dragonfly on its' head in the last photo!!
If ID is correct, it's a first for here! Only the one shot & it was with some Chipping Sparrows
'Just washed my feathers & can't do a thing with 'em....)
White crowned in back with yellow crowned in front and submitted separately.
The hen (AKA Marie) appears to have a fractured beak and may be the same hen who visited the yard last year throughout the summer and fall.
Not sure about this one nor do I know what’s in its beak, perhaps material to build a nest?!
AI suggestions #’s 1-3:
Orange-crowned warbler , Palm warbler, Nashville Warbler
Sunlight washing out details
Is it possible another warbler first for me ?! I’m going with AI first suggestion. Any corrections appreciated.
It looks like mother hen, Marie-with-the-fractured-beak, and 3 juveniles at the bird feeder. If calculations are correct they would be about 4 weeks old. A frustrating lack of knowledge of duckling development prevents me from certainty. Also not 100% certain it’s the hen with the fractured beak- see photos 1-3. Any enlightenment is appreciated. Thanks :-)
PS: never observed her nest or her hatchlings swimming in the lake but it would make my heart happy to think Marie showed her ducklings where to find our bird feeder! :-))
Could someone with knowledge please let me know if this hen’s beak is broken? She was observed with her mate, eating on land apparently without difficulty. Thank you.
