Turritella “unicorn snail” at Cangrejera Beach.

Observed by a Friends of the Desert Mountains trail camera in Palm Desert.

Bad pic but you get the idea, saw this guy crossing the road. Did my best to snag a picture before he disappeared and was very happy to have seen him

On the waterfall hike at the Eaton Canyon Natural Area a large group of kids spotted this Ringtail high above us.

A friend who was at the beach 2/28/24 sent these to me.

This 3/4" Chlamys hastata (Spiny Pink Scallop) was squirming and leaping about in a shallow tide pool. The second photo shows the scallop underwater.

At about 70 feet deep.

due to the worn nature of this shell I could not identify the species, abalone locally are extremely rare, so I have no experience in IDing them

Shell broke open

These were strangely abundant live in the intertidal at a -1.5 ft low tide. This species is usually only seen in the subtidal.

found at 20' depth

Found in the tide next to hermit crabs and tons of mussel shells.

Success! Once released, black-footed ferrets will often pop back up from their burrows to inspect their new territories. They are very curious animals!

Observed many being eaten by eagles, crows, and ravens at minus tides.
