I am not aware of any other report of baboons so far North in the Tibesti. The very distant shot shows the sentinel of the family of about 15-20 individuals, which remain hidden in a gully behind the shrub (slope of Pic Toussidé volcano in background). Extremely peculiar situation. Juvenile elephant seal off the beach at Midigama. The only documented sighting of a seal in Sri Lankan waters ever. Sorry for the picture quality. The navy and wildlife department are monitoring the situation.

I was there to see the long staying Ring-billed Gull, which I found after some time searching for it. So I was very surprised to see there in the early afternoon of February 11th what I first thought was an Otter swimming upstream between Hitdorf and Langel.
But after I learned that a Harbour Seal (Phoca vitulina) Seehund, was recently seen on the river Rhein near the city of Duisburg, I am sure that my observation was not an Otter but this Harbour Seal. That is 336 km from the mouth of the Rhein into the North Sea away!

the bat was flying in bright daylight, probably was roosting under the bridge and a fisherman spooked him. Then suddenly dropped into the river and started swimming. After a few seconds sadly it disappeared into the water.

A young bird is observed at 17:30 on April 5, 2012 crossing the Strait of Gibraltar towards Africa to Europe. This is the first observation of this species in Europe.
