Small forested stream. In log. Woo! Such an honour to find one of these beautiful animals! Accidentally disturbed while climbing over the log it was in and it fell out.
Note: The animal was not handled or affected in any way. Was just taken photos of then left alone.

I like to break up my moth uploads with a few lizards, so I can easily see where each 'moth session' begins and ends. Here is a mother with a baby in tow in a Coprosma propinqua bush

Still here a year later. Counted about a dozen webs, sighted three live spiders, plus one egg sac. Very small patch of pīngao here; the marram really seems to have squeezed in since last visit

I didn't expect this when I flipped the piece of wood. Carefully placed back after getting images.

A green chiton attached to a half crab. We observed this alien looking commensal beast while undertaking an intertidal survey on the reefs off Hawera. It made us jump when we first turned over the rock.

Is it a fish? Is it a slug? Is it a fishy anemone? I do not have a clue what this is!
It is about 30mm long and there were a few of them in the sand - outgoing tide nearly on the turn. Most were buried and only the "fan fin" was showing.
Resting on the wet sand, when the sand collapsed it arched it's face upwards (2nd and third photos) and seem to spawn capsule from somewhere - there are 2 floating in the 4th pic.
Totally hypnotic, by the time my sister-in-law and I carried on the brother had walked 2kms away from us!

Found under pine tree log on gravel path. It must of just molted because it is a white colouration and the molt is right next to it.
