Grows on rotting logs. Leaf cells quadrate, bilobed to 1/2 length with triangular lobes, part curved. Perianth mouth laciniate, ciliate, bracts bilobed with triangular, dentte lobes; gemmae ovoid, green, celled, frequent at apices of upright shoots with reduced leaves.

Leaves with small, thick-walled cells, short-decurrent. Copious production of angular gemmae. On spongy bark of very old hemlock in humid ravine among other liverworts.
Aka Cephalozia catenulata. Growing on a rotting log in the woods. Leaves not decurrent. Leaf cells 15-25 microns, quadrate, and thick-walled. Perianths with long, irregular teeth. Gemmae present.
