Colorful orange-pink gall on the stem of a scrub oak along the trail connecting Miller Ranch Road and Miller Lateral Road, Marshall Canyon, San Gabriel foothills. I'm thinking these are either Phacelia Shortface or Blue-Phacelia Miner bees. The photos are of several different individuals in this colony. The nest holes tended by females. I believe a few males were "sleeping" in the flowers. It was a cool afternoon, and I found several that appeared deceased as they were not moving. They were alive and well however.
