Found with Dave Goodward on Otay Mountain. We found a total of six Anadenulus cockerelli, but this one was much darker than the others we found, so we aren't sure if it is something different.

I am 100% certain of this location, and the identification seems very certain. I think this might be important, as it is a very rare species only found alive a few times in the last 6 years. the shape matches a species found in Australia. If it's that species, how did it get here? If it's the California native species, could this be an extended range? Introduced? New species, even??

This was the first of eight small dark slugs found at various locations on Volcan Mountain Preserve. They were all under bark flakes and logs in mixed oak/conifer woodland in shady locations.

Appeared in my isopod vivarium, not sure where they came from.
Everything put into the tank was local (leaves from outside were frozen and/or soaked before addition), plants taken from a local greenhouse, gravel and charcoal for the take was purchased and put in after being washed.

Came across this snail that seemed to be eating lichen at the side of the trail. (It had just stopped raining.) The body was impressively far out of the shell! The shell didn’t have a band but it was very worn. The body seems diagnostic of Pacific sideband. I’d appreciate any other thoughts.

Tiny larvae ( <.5 cm ) inside decayed wood, carrying brown orbs, occasionally depositing them. Is it a frass shield like in some Coleoptera larvae? Are they diptera larvae instead??
Bearing a striking resemblance to a slime mold.
