Host is an unidentified insect larvae, found growing from the cut end of a well decayed and wet log (Silver fir seems most likely but almost completely debarked) The part of the log it was in was the lowest, wettest sector of the log on the downhill end.

I thought this was just a really freaky looking cricket at first, but now I'm thinking it's one infested with Cordyceps fungus or similar. Whatever it is, it was affixed to the leaf and seemed dead.
Found on a loop trail.

Unsure what the host was....it was covered in a soft white substance similar to a fungal veil. I felt the brown crunch of a thorax of some sort and you can see bits in the pics. Found in leaf litter.

Also called "zombie ant fungus" The species in the picture specifically infects Florida carpenter ants, Camponotus floridanus and is therefore called Ophiocordyceps camponoti-floridani
