This very unusual web appeared to originate in a small hole and spread upward for about a foot. It was not quite 1" wide, and looked like a waterfall. I found two other shorter ones on the same tree, a 400-year-old Douglas Fir.

I’m almost certain this is a male Sassacus vitis. It was really tiny, only a millimeter or less, so just a baby. It has a few iridescent scales, and the palps are already the shape of a male Sassacus vitis. I’m hesitating to ID it as such because I’m hoping one of the experts will weigh in and confirm my suspicions first.
