A green chiton attached to a half crab. We observed this alien looking commensal beast while undertaking an intertidal survey on the reefs off Hawera. It made us jump when we first turned over the rock.

Noted the dogbane plants last year, but I never thought I'd see one of these with less than a dozen observed in DFW(only one in Tarrant County); @atmosci noticed the plants looked nibbled and found this guy in seconds!

I wished on my birthday that I would find a cool jumping spider and Mother Nature granted my wish by giving me Mr. Bold. I had a fun time with him, giving him snacks and enjoying his company for a few hours. He made me very happy :)

Taken on monthly group walk on the Nalle Bunny Run Wildlife Refuge owned by Hill Country Conservancy.
This is the first time I've observed one of the "hanging thieves" robber flies on the preserve. I've only ever seen them before in Gonzales.

I wasn’t gonna image this guy stalking the other bugs on my sheet. Then he squared off with a moth until the wind blew them apart. He caught a more manageable snack afterwards.
