A single cluster located in the Patagonia Mountains, Arizona, within the Coronado Nation Forest at approximately approximately 1750 meters above sea level. I have obscured the exact date and location to protect this very small population from poaching. This species is a large bunch grass with inflorescences that have multiple branches on which the female flowers are below the male flowers (like corn!). The large seeds form a stack of kernels that disarticulate when dispersed. This specimen was finishing flowering and going to seed. Pressed specimen on newspaper that is about 2’x1.5’.
