Injured/stranded. Taken to vet by park ranger. Unusual for point location. Two spotted last week off Skonun by PH. Warm seas this fall. Bird flu? Collision? Starvation? Latest report is no broken bones, possibly attacked by an eagle. Last 2 photos from Facebook posts

First Canadian record. The Hawfinch was first seen very briefly in the town of Haines Junction on 14 Dec by Wolf Riedl, and despite thorough searches including the Christmas Bird Count it was not seen again until 28 Dec when a bird (suggestive of Hawfinch) was seen briefly at Willow Acres by Millie Hall; then on 29 Dec the first photo (solidly confirming the ID) was obtained by Julie Bauer at Willow Acres during a brief view; and then on 30 Dec a six-hour vigil at Julie and Terry's home was rewarded by a fly-by early in the day followed by great views of the Hawfinch perched in an aspen in the late afternoon by Cameron Eckert, Jukka Jantunen, Pam Sinclair, Boris Dobrowolsky, Shyloh van Delft, Julie Bauer, Terry Skjonsberg, and Ulrich Trachsel with Freyia Trachsel on hand to witness to it all! The Hawfinch seems quite flighty and hasn't settled in to a a bird feeder. During today's observation it never came to a feeder.
