Yesterday was my first-time searching in the Blue Mountains for native freshwater crayfish, with the most success I’ve ever had. I found numerous large Euastacus spinifer, with two large females carrying eggs. I also found an abundance of juvenile Euastacus spinifer. It’s fantastic to see the blue mountain's creeks and streams are so healthy, and I’m confident I’ll find an even larger Euastacus spinifer next time!
⚠️ All Euastacus spinifer captured were for the Blue Mountains crayfish count and were released immediately unharmed‼️

Over two days, I explored two creeks in the blue mountains with incredible success and accomplished surveys of the Euastacus spinifer. I captured various-sized female specimens with eggs and found the creeks full of miniature Euastacus spinifer, which is a sign of healthy streams full of mature adult Euastacus spinifer.
