I heard a weird rattle sound in the grass and carefully looked over to see the smaller, brown snake (male) courting the larger, dark snake (larger female). I know it was courting because it was doing the jittery rapid movement that males to do to stimulate females. When it was doing this, the female wagged her tail back in forth, which is what caused the rattling noise I heard earlier.
