This poor fella had flown into a window. Over the years, many birds have met their fate in this one location. However, unlike the others, this grosbeak survived! He was dazed but otherwise ok.
I tried picking him up and moving him to a tree, but the little guy put up a fight. Every time I cupped the grosbeak, he'd flap his way out. On the third attempt, he had enough and flew over to the tree himself!
Safe at last, I left the bird on his own. Hours later, the grosbeak was gone.
This was my first experience with this species and boy, I won't be forgetting it any time soon!
Recently, this ditch in Hefhill Park has been redeveloped for water management. A stream now runs through it, creating a small, marsh-like habitat. Apparently, the Mallards have found out about it. A pair of them crawled out of a nearby culvert and waddled through the tiny swamp. They stayed for a moment before flying away.
I found an egg on the ground in a swamp-like environment. This area is surrounded by trees and plenty of robins and blackbirds call this place home.
Perhaps one of them discarded this eggshell.
