repeat observation of magnificent old tree (https://inaturalist.nz/observations/219290329) only about 4m high but most of it is semi-prostrate, and until recently smothered by pink jasmine and honeysuckle.

Once abundant in this forest (early 1990s) now scarce (not sure why as browsing animals are very well controlled)y. Occasional shrubs noted, usually on stream banks and small rock outcrops in dense forest. Very few specimens with immature fruit, no flowers seen.
