This individual again, but a little larger and with more color now.
The 2nd photo shows its vertical orb web.
"Oh hey, a Sergiolus! The first I've seen!". I grab this photo and then take to the front porch right next to my room. Immediately a running crab spider runs in front of me, and I'm able to catch it real quick. While I'm struggling to get photos of that one, this male sheetweb spider appears directly to my right. I put that one in my tube to take photos of next, and then a Castieneira species (which I have yet to get photos of) shows up right in front of me, but I have nothing else available to catch it with, so it gets away! Sheesh. I thought I was done there, and I turn around to go inside just to find this lynx right next to the door. 😆
On the underside of a leaf above my head.
When I first noticed it, I guessed it would be something like Araniella displicata, but the abdominal pattern didn't look right after I got a closer look. It looks a lot like an orbweaver to me, but I both don't know what kind it would be, and haven't seen any orb web in addition to the messy web that is there any time I've gone out there.
I've been keeping an eye on this little one to see if an orb web would show up, and a small vertical one finally did today! It has grown slightly larger, and the abdominal markings are becoming clearer. The markings are definitely convincing me that this is a marbled orbweaver! :) An early one, it seems. The only marbled orbweaver I found last year (this one) was found under a leaf with a small orb web just like this one, even on the same branch.
I hope it sticks around for awhile longer.
