Massive single, seen growing in this general area before. Unfortunately not yet mature / dropping spores so not sure of species. With manuka / kanuka
Left half in the ground so hopefully this might mature?
very close to where this observation was

which was Austrocortinarius australiensis
Any ideas on this adorable little bolete? They seem to be quite common on our woodland trails (mostly below pine) in Etowah County, Alabama, US. This was seen this morning, May 26, 2023. The apex of stem is pale white/cream/pink and reticulate, while the base of the stem changes to yellow tones. Odor and flavor are nutty to sweet. No staining, but stem has some yellowing (from age?). KOH on cap flashes olive and resolves to dirty amber. Very little reaction to ammonia (maybe a VERY slight graying of cap).
Strong odor of fresh vegetables–snap pea, cucumber, jicama… Obviously desirable to the wildlife as we found several munched before we found the whole ones.
