All the same individual bird, but you can see how the lighting conditions affect the perceived colors. I think this is a Swainson's? The tail was rusty, but didn't seem to contrast as sharply with the back as I usually see on Hermits. Then again, refer to my above comment on the lighting conditions.
Found in the evening when I went to put the chickens in for the night. Alive, but so cold that it didn’t respond at all to a light touch. We took it in for a few days until the weather warmed and just released it this afternoon in the same spot. Named it Charlie. Hopefully Charlie will grow big and have many offspring and eat some of the many, many, many rodents we have around here.
Caught in a bucket trap in the garage. All entry holes were sealed a while ago, but we need to go over the building again to check for new ones. Even if there are no points of entry anymore, we probably still have a self-sustaining population in there from waaaayyy back.
Bucket-trapped mice get brought outside for another chance at life in a bramble thicket with lots of food and shelter available. I do wish I had little mouse-sized tags I could put on them to track if they do in fact get back into the building.
