I have been a birder for 20+ years, but Iowa summers are pretty boring bird-wise, so insects caught my attention. I'm at least minimally competent with Midwestern butterflies, moths, dragonflies. I know a bit about IDing my local robber flies, tiger beetles, fish, herps, and prairie plants. I'm still a serious recreational birder and am very interested in moths, especially rearing the genus Papaipema.
