It has been two years since I joined iNaturalist for the purpose of learning the names of the plants around my property. I had no idea this was going to be so much fun thanks to all of you who have taken an interest in my observations and helped me with challenging IDs. It seems that Edwards County is poorly documented, and I have had the opportunity to contribute to the body of knowledge of what plants occur in this small area of the planet. Some observations have been the first submission for a species.

I have also discovered the benefits of providing IDs on other’s observations. Not only does it reinforce what specific species look like, I have been able to glean numerous extremely helpful guidance on key differences between similar species. Reading manuals on vascular plants just doesn’t make those differences stand out.
