PhD in ecology, originally trained in botany and mycology at the uni, but actually started watching birds, plants, snails, mussels, fungi etc as a boy. In recent years, phytophagous insects and plant parasitic fungi such as rusts and smuts have been my main interest, with gall midges above all.
