I mostly study birds, but enjoy learning about all other life forms as well. I have been studying birds in the Sierra Nevada since 2003, mostly winter-summer. In the fall, I work on Southeast Farallon Island 30 miles west of San Francisco. During the winter and spring, I also work on projects at the Carrizo Plain and Mojave Desert. Bird species and abundance correlate well with habitat, so I often get to ID shrubs and trees for work.
