This all began for me back in the early 1960s with a very positive influence from my grandmother. As with so many of us a career and raising a family were number one priorities. I've always enjoyed photographing all aspects of nature; animals, birds, fish, habitats, insects, plants, etc. I really dove into photographing nature after retiring.
In the fall of 2015 I was introduced to the wonders of the Whitemud Ravine Nature Reserve. After a few brief trips I came to really appreciate the north segment. At that time I committed myself to a year of photographing 'everything nature' in this 3.2 kilometer stretch of Edmonton's River Valley.
I've now spent 9 years, more than 12,000 hours there as I continue to discover new features that demand proper documentation, investigation and protection. One of my newest finds has been Slime Molds, 28 different species and sub-species thus far.
