July Virtual Seminar: Plant Biodiversity at a Former Industrial Site with Allyson Salisbury on July 18th

Our July seminar features Allyson Salisbury and her work on plant biodiversity and succession at Liberty State Park. This talk will share the history of Liberty State Park and some of the ecological lessons that we have learned from its interior forest gleaned from over a decade of research.

Allyson is an environmental scientist and urban ecologist who studies how trees and other plants grow in the built environment. Her research helps us understand how to help trees grow better in less than ideal conditions so we can create greener places for people to live, work, and play. She has studied stormwater management systems, post-industrial sites, highway roadsides, hurricane impacts on trees, and street trees. She received her B.S. from Susquehanna University and her Ph.D. from Rutgers University. She is currently an adjunct researcher for both Temple University and the University of Florida. Prior to her current positions, Allyson worked at a watershed non-profit in northern New Jersey, the New Jersey State Forestry Services, and The Morton Arboretum. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, cooking, knitting, hiking, board games, and Dungeons and Dragons.
