Taxonomic Swap 126961 (提交於 2024-08-13)

Silene campanulata S.Watson is illegitimate. Both POWO and the Jepson eFlora treat it as Silene greenei.

@jkierstead — Any reason I shouldn't commit this?

Yes, this one is straightforward. I see no issue subbing greenei for campanulata.
The squirrelly taxon is Silene greenei subsp. angustifolia. Since this is a state-listed entity under California ESA, CNPS and CNDDB did a status review last year but noted "Only plants from Red Mtn. and Little Red Mtn., MEN Co., are recognized for status and included in this treatment; plants that key to ssp. angustifolia outside of this region have uncertain affinities." https://rareplants.cnps.org/Plants/Details/1127
There are plenty of plants in NW California that key to ssp. angustifolia but at this point, are explicitly NOT protected under CESA. It's not uncommon to find intermediates or mixed populations either. Kind of a mess. OFP does not recognize ssp. angustifolia in OR, so I guess it's just a California problem.
Thanks for asking!

Thanks! I think Silene greenei subsp. angustifolia stays as it is either way. For whatever reason, iNaturalist at present has Silene greenei subsp. angustifolia, but not Silene campanulata subsp. angustifolia, so there's no reason to poke at it as far as I can tell...

@aspidoscelis I'm excited to see this merger as most S. greenei in Oregon are being IDed as S. campanulata, presumably because the Oregon Flora Project uses the latter name.

Is someone going to pull the trigger on this?
