Carpenter bee with an injured wing unable to fly. Found standing on asphalt trying (and failing) to fly, I moved it to a safer spot a few inches away and placed a few flowers around it. It was interested in the flowers but seemed quite exhausted regardless.
This big bee was one of several such bees that were attracted by something on the leaves of what I think were goldenrod plants growing near the entrance to the David Balfour Park Trail from Mathersfield Drive on a unseasonably warm and humid spring day.
The bee was licking something on the surface of the leaves. In some photos, the bee’s tongue can be seen. The bee also paused to wipe its eyes.
