Walked out on the mudflats when the tide went out. A few dozen of them, along with other bird species, feeding on the mudflats. I believe it was the first NZ endemic I encountered during my 2-month stay.
In a midden at back of an ocean beach where bivalve shells are remarkably uncommon.
I see this moth quite regularly, I'm guessing its not just a variant ethella. Monopis typhylopa has been recorded in the Chathams but I can't find what that looks like
