Berry Springs Park and Preserve Herps of Texas report, 17Aug2024

There was a small group outing to Berry Springs Park and Preserve this month.
Four amphibian species were observed in the sloughs, main pond, and ditch in the pecan orchard, as well as along the hiking paths around the main pond: Rio Grande Leopard Frog (CI = 3), Gulf Coast Toad (CI = 0), Green Treefrog (CI = 3), and Blanchard's Cricket Frog (CI = 3).
A Common Nighthawk was seen and heard before sunset. A Nine-banded Armadillo was seen before sunset, and two more were seen after sunset. Several White-tailed Deer and one Yellow-crowned Night Heron were seen after sunset. Water was flowing over the dam (but less than last month).
According to the USGS gauge station at Berry Creek at Airport Road near Georgetown, TX (https://waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/08105095/#parameterCode=00065&period=P7D), there had been 0 inches of rain in the previous 25 days.
The monitoring period was 20:05 - 21:35.
Participants were Kathy, Christie, and Carolyn.

Air temperature = 85.1 deg F
Water temperature = 82 deg F
Sky = mostly cloudy
Water level = average
Relative humidity = 54 %
