Geotagging observations greatly simplified!

This method works if you use Adobe Lightroom or other cataloging software to process your photos. I use Lightroom and prior to being introduced to this method spent considerable time (some in the field, much more at the keyboard) entering accurate geolocations for my observations.

I can't thank Tony Iwane (@tiwane) enough for his comment here recommending this video. I have not field-tested the procedure yet, but will soon.

You will need to feed your geotagging software a GPX file. If you use a Garmin GPS unit and its BaseCamp app, you can highlight the relevant track in BaseCamp, select File, then Export [filename] or Export Selected User Data to generate the GPX file. MotionX-GPS and Maprika are among the smartphone tracking apps that can export a GPX file.

Can't wait to give it a try!
