I'm contracted to look for endangered Mission Blues during these four days, all weather/ sunny day contingent. Will do what I can to participate, but it might have to indirect ( as we continue this relentless, rainy season...insert silent scream) Thanks Alison & Rebecca for all your work to...corral our manias!

MMWD (@boschniakia and @lotusmorning) will be hosting some "competitive nature observing" around Lake Lagunitas from 1-4pm Saturday April 15 after our regularly scheduled habitat restoration event. We'd have a flyer out already but our PR department is working on our rate hike meetings...soon, though!
So @wildmarin you were looking for something in Marin on Saturday afternoon--here it is!

發佈由 boschniakia 約 7 年 前

no definitive plans yet, I have some potential wicked scheduling conflicts, but will do all I can. I plan on hitting places which are less likely to have observations.

I sure wish I could go to the Solano county event. I have to work that weekend, in Santa Rosa!
I have that Friday and Monday on my calendar to do my own bioblitz for the challenge I saw posted awhile back.

I'm going to take my high school students to Ring Mountain on Monday, April 17th to participate! I will also try to go to the Saturday Ring Mountain BioBlitz. If there are better places in Marin within 20 to 25 minutes of San Rafael that you think I should take my high school students (20 of us), let me know and I can change our location!

Looking forward to it! @kestrel

I'm afraid I'll be adding to Seattle's count and not the Bay Area's. (At least not LA's?)

I'm going up Mix Canyon to Blue Ridge on Friday morning 4/14. This is the general area: https://goo.gl/maps/EJhTh7kv6Zv If folks want to arrange to meet and explore the Vaca Mountains along Mix Canyon/Blue Ridge Road just let me know. I have a spot I meet groups in Vacaville when I lead trips to this area for Sacramento Audubon and the Central Valley Bird Club. This area has some incredible chaparral, oaks, and riparian along Ulatis Creek.

Thanks @vermfly! I added it to our list above. Sounds like a great trip, I look forward to seeing the observations!

@lgottlieb Thanks for getting your students involved! If it's easy for you to take your students to, I think it's fine if we get double-coverage of Ring Mountain - every observation counts, even if it's not a new species for the City Nature Challenge!

But feel free to take them anywhere if there's a park/open space that's closer to your school/more convenient - China Camp is another nearby spot that should have some good wildflowers & wildlife this time of year, and so far I don't think we've had anyone say they'll go there to make observations - so your students could potentially be our only coverage there, if that's an easy trip for you.

Do what's easiest/most convenient for you and your students! And thanks again! :)

Ok, maybe I'll go to China camp. That is a little closer and it would be fun to cover something that is different. I am going to ask my students to participate throughout the weekend too for their HW (they live all over) so hopefully that will help too! Will we add these observations to a Bay Area City Nature "Project"...or do we just have to make observations in the bay area for them to automatically count? Thanks!

發佈由 lgottlieb 約 7 年 前

@lgottlieb The observations will be automatically added to the project, so you don't have to add them separately. The "automatic aggregator" should find them as long as they're made April 14-18 and somewhere in the nine Bay Area counties. And just an fyi that the aggregator runs every 15 minutes or so, so observations might not show up in the project immediately after uploading, but they'll get pulled in eventually.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing the observations from China Camp - I'll ID what I can! And let your students know that we really appreciate their help!

Excellent, thank you !!!!

@boschniakia & @lotusmorning Added your Lake Lagunitas info above - let me know if there's a place people should meet/where to get more info, and if you want me to add it to the main City Nature Challenge pages as a public event!

I attended a GGAS field trip today by boat on the Petaluma River from Petaluma to San Pablo Bay. Is there any special way I need to add observations?

發佈由 hasfitz5 約 7 年 前

There are two "City Nature Challenges" - utterly confused. Do I need to join both?

發佈由 robberfly 約 7 年 前

@hasfitz5 Nope! As long as the observations are made somewhere in the 9 Bay Area counties April 14-18, they'll automatically be added to our SF Bay Area City Nature Challenge project!
